“Didn’t you even ran outside? I would run as fast as I could.” – A friend replied to my message. I just had seen a snake in my bathroom while I was utterly naked and at my most vulnerable. And the crazy thing about it was that I didn’t even scream. The only thing I was freaking out about was the old skin that the snake left behind. I was semi-disgusted but at the same time, I wanted to look it from up close. Later on, I realized that the snake and I were not so different from each other at all. I was in a big transition phase too and was shredding some layers. This is what the snake symbol teaches us:
The Serpent Symbol – Shedding old layers
The serpent symbol is without a doubt one of the most ancient symbols in existence. It is found all throughout the world from America, India, China, Egypt, Japan and Syria. This symbol has in most cultures the same spiritual meaning. The Serpent reminds us that we are forever expanding and using our life forces to change. Just like the snake we are renewing and shedding old layers – illusions and limitations. When the snake shed their skin, they become a new being. It reminds us that we as human beings have the ability to shed beliefs and habits which we have outgrown. We are forever expanding and letting go of things that no longer serving us. And from there we can move into a higher spiritual energy.
Spiritual practices from all around the world recognize the snake as a symbol of kundalini aka life force. It’s believed that this kundalini energy can reach us to enlightenment. The home of the kundalini is stationed at the very base of our spine – the root chakra. Once the energy can flow freely – The kundalini energy has the ability to force the flow of the energy through the entire chakra system. In a lot of cases, the person that is going through an awakening is experiencing a lot of discomfort. This is a process which happens naturally as we evolve.
Symptoms of kundalini rising:
- Interest in spiritual growth
- longing to help others
- Increased sensitivity to light, sound, and energy
- feeling energy *like electricity through the whole body
- Intense heat in the body
- Mood swings –
