Authentic Bali in Tabanan
I attended a Hindu ceremony in one of the villages in Bali in the Tabanan regency (West-coast). This area in Bali still undiscovered and tourism hasn’t really developed here yet. Here you can still experience authentic Bali. It’s very peaceful and I feel there is something mystical about this area. Imagine green rice paddies, beautiful jungles and hidden villages.
To be honest: I hope it stays authentic for a long time because tourism in Bali is developing very fast. Development isn’t always a good thing when it is going to fast I think. It has an impact on the Balinese culture and it’s people.
Another example is that the beautiful rice paddies of Bali are slowly disappearing because there are a lot of hotel investors wanting to buy more and more land. In the big cities you can see a lot of Western influences and there is nothing really authentic anymore in this area. It is like tourism has taken over.
To be in this part of Bali gives me amazing travel experiences. A lot of times I get invitations to go to a ceremony. Such a good way to immerse myself into a culture. This ceremony I attended was about the celebration of the temple. It was such a beautiful but heavy experience that I really want to share it with everyone. I arrived at the ceremony at 9 eve till 3 midnight. My butt was kind of hurting but it was totally worth to go and see it with my own eyes. A lot of girls and boys were performing Balinese dancing accompanied with the traditional gamelan music.
I’m not going to say a lot more because you just have to see this vlog and tell me what you think. If you are scared for horror movies, don’t watch this at night please ;). The information about the ceremony I will explain in the video. These are one of the things that I will never forget.
“Traveling—it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”
I feel very grateful to be volunteering for a resort in a beautiful part of Bali because in the Tabanan regency you can still experience authentic Bali. It is really cool to be a part of it for a while.
Sunkissed kisses from the island of Gods,
