Maybe I was being too optimistic about the Dutch winter once I sat foot in this country. That’s what you get when you are being too optimistic about everything. After travelling 9 months in South-East Asia I was totally used to temperatures of 30+ celsius. Here in The Netherlands it’s totally different. With different I mean like 180 degrees different, total opposite. All I wanted to do in my first week was cuddle up in bed waiting for the spring to come. I don’t even know how many pots of tea I made for myself, but it’s a lot I can tell you. One of my lifesaviours these days are the Ayurvedic teas from Yogi tea that will keep me warm this winter.
Ancient healing system
Ayurveda is one of the oldest healing systems (3000 years) from India. This healing system believes that the mind and body can’t be seen separated. The emotional, spiritual and mental energies have an effect on the balance or imbalance of the body. These energies – better yet these 3 powers are known as the ‘doshas’. Ayurveda derives from the words life and knowledge.
According to Ayurveda, the universe is composed of five elements (Tattvas): earth, water, fire, air and ether. Each of these elements is associated with one of three bodily humours or doshas, vata, pitta and kapha.
Everyone is unique and has their own combination of the three doshas. This is fixed from birth and only two dosha’s will be predominate. With this link you can do a dosha test.
Ayurvedic teas are powerful and effective in balancing the digestive system because of the ingredients and spices. It’s balancing the pH and stimulating the digestive and lymphatic system. The most important thing about Ayurvedic teas is that it’s supports each dosha for a balanced and healthy body and mind. The Ayurvedic teas from Yogi Tea are my favorite because of the richness in taste. They use ingredients like cardamom, anise, black pepper, cloves.
The coolest of it all; the geniuses behind Yogi Tea made every tea bag with its own uplifting quote. I am always curious what the quote would say and a lot of times they are super accurate (even though I always want to see connections ;). On the back of the package you can find a yoga or meditation pose to try out. Buy yogi tea at Holland and Barret.nl, Hollandandbarret.uk.
